12th of May Wainuiomata Rapids lose to Reds (2-3)
Everything, bar the kitchen sink was thrown into the game against the Eagles Victoria Reds, with all players of the Rapids having exceptional games. Though there were times of unforced errors, fitness is now showing to be the testing factor for the Rapids as they showed glimpses of mistakes that were looking fatigued related. Rapids are demonstraing how strong the heart and soul is in their team with an emotional roller coaster game of Volleyball against Eagles Victoria Reds. With all that emotion shown it helped them get them back into the game, after losing the first set and the third, having another one of
their Wellington League games heading into the fifth set.The Reds showed their experience through out the match with timely uses of their middle attacks aswell as their long full stretching spikes that caught the Rapids short on many occasions. But it was the excellent setting of Junior Tiata that was making any odd pass look good with his quick feet work to the ball, also another outstanding game from Outside Hitter, Alex Ulu, who busted through the seams time and time again. All players did their best with the hitting coverage, which made the game entertaining for all spectators with long spectacular rallies. Middles, Andrew Ulu and Herbert Faitele had flawless games with alot of work being done as far as defence and shifting their attack around the net. Super Sub Kingshar Luteru also featured well as a passer for Andrew Ulu in the backcourt. Darryl Samuelu and Ashton Ulu also contributed strongly with both, demonstrating hard hitting spikes that got the kills aswell as their strong tipping game, it was an art form to admire. Despite going down 13 – 15 in the fifth set, the Rapids Mens now have a realisation of their own abilities, and are enjoying the fruits of their labour.

It’s been a soul searching time for the Women’s Rapids team as they have, in their second week in a row, failed to take a set. They had competed well in the first and third set with the second being a blow-out. Senior members would be wanting to make more in-roads to the errors that have been plaguing their game, which is mainly the first up pass. Signs are there that the life in the Rapids will flow more aggressively with standout games from Philippa Samuelu, Casey Macdonald and Dahlia Gray. They will need all the experience from Captain Lynda Moore and setter Ferila Jay-To to be able to swing the balance for the Rapids next week, against Wests.
