Men’s CEV Olympic Qualifier

CEV LogoSpain & Serbia will play-out the Finals of the European Men’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier for a place in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Both teams lead their Pool Play, and both sharing a record of 3-wins & 1-loss in this tournament before playing their Semi-Finals. Only the winner will get to the boarding gate for the Beijing Olympics.

Semi-Final 1 – Spain defeated Finland 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16)

Semi-Final 2 – Serbia defeated Netherlands 3-0 (25-23, 27-25, 25-21)

Auckland, The Final Leg (1:27) – TV3

After an extreme makeover involving 100 cubic metres of sand, the Auckland Tennis Centre is set for the final showdown on the Beach Volleyball Tour.

The Brazilian duo of Camilla Saldanha and Lilli Maestrini are glad to be in Auckland after a buffeting from Wellington’s notorious wind.

The Wellington council has trucked in 250 cubic metres of softer sand from a Kapiti coast quarry in order to keep the athletes in good shape in the upcoming 2008 beach volleyball finals.

The current sand at Oriental Parade (Wellington) is a heavy dense sand from Takaka. It was chosen for its weight so it wouldn’t be sucked away from the sea and blown around by the wind.

Anna Scarlett has swapped netball’s silver fern for the golden sands of beach volleyball – two sports with plenty of crossover skills.

“I was known as an aerial player, it has only benefited my volleyball and getting through the tough times,” Scarlett says.
